Asr Fiqh FAQ
What is the difference between Asr Hanafi and Asr Shafi?
Asr Hanafi follows Misal Doem (shadow reaches roughly 2x object length), while Asr Shafi / Ahl-e-Hadith follows Misal Awwal (shadow reaches roughly 1x object length).
Misal Awwal vs Misal Doem - what do these terms mean?
Misal Awwal (مثلِ اوّل) means first shadow method (equal shadow). Misal Doem (مثلِ دوم) means second shadow method (double shadow), commonly used in Hanafi Asr timing.
Which option should I select?
Select the option your local mosque follows. If your masjid follows Hanafi fiqh, choose Hanafi. If it follows Shafi / Ahl-e-Hadith calculation, choose Shafi.
